A Short Review of Hedge ( and supplements) by A Couple of Drakes

Perhaps the problem is that I only review what interests me, but most of my reviews turn out super complimentary. This one…well, it’s gonna be even more so. I got the games for free with community copies. As usual I will be rating this publication on 4 metrics: Utility, Quality, Presentation, Price.

Utility: Guys. This is a whole game. If you want to engage in big time power fantasy combats with alien fey trying to take over what’s left of a post-Apocalyptic world, it has your back. Unlike my D&D reviews, utility is pretty clearly high, cuz…it’s the whole thing. Since I love the premise, and the line of inspirations back to through Lumen and Light to Destiny….This one is a no-brainer.

5/5

Quality: Simple, direct, easily understandable, rules-lite in the best way. Uses the Lumen ideas to their utmost. Writing is evocative and clear at the same time.

5/5

Presentation: Despite there being very little actual illustration, the zines are a visual feast. The borders, the cover, the fonts, the layout…I am quite impressed. If there’s anything off, it’s that some pages have like, one small thing in the middle of them and nothing else, like the headers for the antagonist types. Obviously an intentional design choice, but it’s a little jarring in places. Still, great work.

4/5

Price: I got the dang thing for free. Lots of people can. And even if you do pay for it, the price is extraordinarily low for the amount of entertainment it’s likely to provide. $15? Worth it. Especially with the supplements being straight up free.

5/5

This averages out to an overall 5/5. If you like Fae in your games, and wanna run a Fae themed post-Apoc game that feels like Destiny…..buy this. Now.

5/5
