Review: Beyond the Golden Vault, A Community Collaboration.

Full transparency, I received a free copy of this huge supplement for review purposes. As usual I will rate this on four metrics: Utility, Quality, Presentation, and Price.

Utility: Even bigger than their last release, with backgrounds, spells, gear, tiered magic items, subclasses, full heist adventures and how to build heists of the same kind of your own, new monsters, traps… this is going to be useful for any game where heists may ever happen, and indispensable for an actual heist campaign. 5/5

Quality: The items are cool and balanced ( having them increase in power with the Tier of the character is awesome!), the spells are interesting, the subclasses are balanced, the backgrounds are cool as heck…it’s all put together well. One of my Favorite concepts is the Paladin of Redistribution…turning the most common ideas of a paladin on their head. The heists they present are novel and well thought out, set in a mental archive on a distant plane, a casino in an airship, and a museum at the junction of several realities. The traps are fiendish, but account for multiple possible ways to circumvent them. The monsters are cool. And at the end of the book, keys to making your own heists, tools to use running the game, and random tables for building heists! Chef’s Kiss. 5/5

Presentation: It’s clear, it’s pretty, it’s well laid out. No notes. The art is very good, and doesn’t overwhelm the text. 5/5

Price: I wanted to find something to find fault with. I did. But 20 bucks, the price point, is definitely worth spending for what you’re getting. Kinda wish WoTC put this much effort in these days. 5/5

Overall 5/5 I really need to review something I don’t like, dangit.
