A Review for an upcoming Kickstarter: Tales from the Firelit Gathering, by Gelatinous Cubicles, for dnd5e

Transparency: I received a free preview/review copy. I’ll be rating this as I always do, on Utility, Quality, Presentation, and Price. But, as it’s a Kickstarter there’s no price yet, so…:)

This preview is just a taste pf what will be offered in the final product, but contains a new ancestry, multiple subclasses, new spells, new magic items, new feats. I’d say great bang for your buck, but that kind of depends on the final price tag. Still, it’s promising stuff. Overall first impression is highly positive.

Utility: It has things for every 5e table, just in the preview alone. Options that feel balanced but seriously expand what you can do in the game, in novel and interesting ways. The Wakeful, a very different take on a skeleton as a PC, is very inspired. I’d give the utility 5/5.

Quality: On careful reading, none of the options presented seem overpowered, or worse, underpowered. The options presented and the approach they take is inclusive and diverse. Good content. 5/5

Presentation: Guys, this thing is pretty. The art, the fonts, the layout….all chef’s kiss. 5/5

So, overall, without a price tag attached, I have to give this thing a 5/5, and I went in skeptical because there is so much stuff for dnd5e on the market that just doesn’t live up to its promise. If the rest of the book is this good, this book will. Back it when it goes live.
