Sherlock is the direct descendant of Sherlock Holmes, in fact his great-great-granddaughter. Like her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before her, she inherited Holmes intelligence, and was raised with his skills, to take over from her father when he retired. Each has used the nom de guerre of Sherlock Holmes, as their ancestor did. Their real name is Bretagne, and they are descended from an Even older Detective, as the founder of their line was Olivier de Bretagne, son of the Benedictine Monk Brother Cadfael by a Syrian widow named Mariam. The current Sherlock is actually named Mariam in her honor. On her mother’s side, Mariam is descended from Bill Richmond, a famous bareknuckle boxer who trained such luminaries as Lord Byron. It is said by a few immortals who knew the Original Holmes that she is even more capable as detective than he was. As each heir to the name has, she still lives and works out of 221b Baker Street in Marylebone, London.
