Paragon, Britain's Mightiest Mortal

In Victorian London, Ezra Chandler was a quiet man, a meek man, who kept to himself. He did no one harm, nor ever even raised his voice. But when he chanced to be coming home one night as the gas lamps were being lit, he heard a call for help from an alley. Peering inside, he saw a dreadful bat-winged thing menacing a young woman. Then and there he prayed for help. "By all things Bright and Holy, give me the strength to drive this evil away!" And he was granted that strength, far beyond the might of mortals. With the Golden Light of Righteousness empowering him he was faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, and nearly invulnerable to mortal concerns. He drove off the creature, which bounded away as if on great springs, breathing fire!  Ever since then, he has been one of the greatest heroes of the World, a founder of the Vanguard along with Dr. Bronze and the Green Knight. He has fought Spring Heel Jack a number of times since then, but the creature always escapes. Now, he leads the Knights of The Round, the premier super-team of the UK. One of his worst enemies is seemingly likewise immortal, the fiendish Dr. Schdenfreude, the Nazi scientist who created the terrifying supervillain called Blitzkrieg.
