A Review: Skald of Shenanigans’ Classic Dungeon Collection: Traps, Puzzles and Tips for Dungeon Campaigns

I’m going to start very simply, and go over a number of factors:

1) Utility

2) Quality

3)Presentation

4)Price

1)Utility: This setting and system agnostic supplement does exactly what it says on the tin. It provides classic traps and puzzles for any dungeon campaign, and tips for how to work them in. And I do indeed mean classic. There are quite a few old favorites in here, but all the aspects of them are addressed, and they can be used in nearly any dungeon, just as advertised.

Utility 5/5

2) Quality: Skald took the time to think through the implications of the traps, and provide guidance on how to resolve them, while remaining system neutral. The section on tips for running dungeon campaigns is well thought out, covering magical issues, cramped quarters, and dungeon layout and their effects on play.

Quality 5/5

3) Presentation: This is where Skald takes a small hit, through no fault of her own, and we address that in the next section. Is the presentation professional? Yes…within the bounds of a shoestring budget. It’s easily readable, the pages are attractive, the cover looks good. It could have used some more illustrations, particularly of traps, but let’s have reasonable expectations from independant creators.

Presentation 4/5

4) Price: This part is insane. Totally insane. In a good way. Skald lets you pay what you want. Including possibly even free. In terms of value, that makes this a homerun. All the way out of the park. She really needs to charge more, honestly.

Price 5/5 * with bonus points for FREE

All in all, that leaves us with an aggregate score of 95%, not even counting the bonus points from her charitability, so I’m giving this one a 5 out of 5 overall.
