Amira is an American of Iraqi descent, and a devout moderate Muslim. The revelation that her mother was actually the ancient goddess Ishtar came as quite a shock, but she (and her father) believe that Ishtar must be one of the djinn rather than a god, as there is no god but Allah. They may be right. She bears her mother's axe of office, but has only learned to use it as a weapon, not its other powers. Her beauty is divine, nearly inhuman, and may become greater still as she unlocks the power in her blood.
