Dr. Wyrd, Agent of the Fates
Jala Amara Alvstad is the daughter of famous archaeologist Ake Alvstad of Uppsala, Sweden, and his wife Amara beth Lamia, an Iraqi born Mandean. Her father trained her in archaeology from a young age, and she was very interested in the ancient tales of both Scandinavia and the Middle East, especially those of Mesopotamia, and to a lesser extent those of Greece. By her late teens, she had become quite proficient in both archaeology and ritual magic. While helping her father at an excavation at Gamla Uppsala, at the Old Temple, she was whisked away, outside time and space. The three ladies she met there said they were the Norns, also known as the Fates, also the Sisters of Namtar. They embody the forces of fate and destiny, and they chose Jala to be their instrument to keep the world on its proper path. In that timeless place, they taught her all she would need to know to wield the mightiest magics of Fate, and aided her in crafting the items she now bears that make it easier. It is has been said that her father descends from the ancient priests of the Old Temple at Uppsala, and that her mother traces her ancestry back to kings and priests of Ninlil and Namtar, in Sumeria, but this claim has yet to be proven.
She has Doctorates in Archeology and Occult Studies.
