The horrific howlerbug is a fiendish insect from a world that is lost and dark, inhabited only by demons and undead. They will eat anything that moves, and they often move in very large packs indeed. Their world sits on the edge of the Void, and their constant howls mimic the howling of the wind across the barren landscape, and the way it whistles through the many caves.
Sometimes, these bugs find their way into other worlds via cracks in reality, Void rifts, and hidden tunnels to the Labyrinth. Then they pour out into that new world like a plague of monstrous locusts.
Often, the only way to stop them is to somehow close the rift or tunnel.
