#DnD Ancestry: The Slaadborn

Slaadborn

Ability Score Increase. Increase one ability score by 2 and increase a different one by 1, or increase three different ability
scores by 1. Most often, the highest scores are Strength and Charisma, but it can vary greatly due to the inherent chaos of slaad biology and the variety of possible progenitors.

Age. Slaadborn mature with astounding speed, often reaching full physical maturity within 6 years. Their full lifespan is unknown, as almost all die in bizarre and unnatural ways. A few have been known to reach 150 years of age before this inevitably occurs.

Size. Slaadborn vary immensely in size. Your size is your choice of Small or Medium.

Speed. Slaadborn move swiftly, if sometimes in an ungainly fashion. Your speed is 30.

Amphibious. The slaadborn can breathe air and water.

Chaotic Resistance. A slaadborn has a single energy resistance, usually acid. Some slaadborn are resistant to literally any other energy, and some even determine their resistance randomly each day.

Darkvision. Thanks to your chaotic heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Legacy of Limbo. You know the primal savagery cantrip, but the damage done is of a random damage type, as chaos bolt. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the chaos bolt spell as a 2nd-level spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can cast the invisibility spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. These are simply the most common, however, and could be replaced with literally any spell of the same level.

Standing Leap. The slaadborn's long jump is up to 20 feet and its high jump is up to 10 feet, with or without a running start.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Slaadi or Primordial, your choice.

The slaadborn are descended from humanoids who somehow survived the chaos phage of a blue slaad, or the implantation of a red slaad's egg, or some other repugnant process, perhaps even actual breeding with slaad, however that might be accomplished. Like their forebears, they tend to be extremely chaotic, in appearance, action, and alignment, though that is not a hard rule. How much they look like their batrachian ancestors also varies, with some resembling bullywugs or smaller slaadi themselves, and others simply having a froggish cast to otherwise human or humanoid features. Very few generalizations can be made about them. Some can be very brightly colored, and resemble grungs.

Rare and varied as they are, they could have almost any name or behavior, but definitely tend toward the impish and unpredictable.
