Villains of Barrow

Here, merely a few teasing glimpses at some of the monstrous villains plaguing Barrow.

(Art to be replaced later)

Der Großmann is an ancient, possibly fey being. It is a quintessential bogeyman from German folklore, and has gained new life in the tales of the Slender Man in modern day. This monster feeds on the fear of the very young, sliding formlessly through shadows and walls, hidden from sight, until it chooses to be seen . . . then it strikes paralyzing fear in its prey before closing to grab them with impossibly long arms and hands, and pull them close. It drains their vitality, and they get ever more tired until they nod off, then die. Those that somehow escape are forever changed, and rarely regain their joy in life. With nothing vital inside its rubbery body, conventional weapons are rarely helpful against it . . . unless one uses iron or steel. A knife is far better than a gun, but then you're well within its range . . .

Pack is the werewolf myth writ large. She represents the fear of the wild, the fear of the night, the fear of contagion, and the fear many men have of powerful, uncontrollable women. Not only does her howl cause primal, paralyzing fear, she herself is immune to it . . . which is important, as she can create 4 duplicates of herself, all of which have all her other powers besides Duplication. She has no powers during the day other than regeneration, but can transform or summon duplicates any time after sundown, regardless of the moon. It is possibly the worst aspect of her, however, that her fangs and claws bear the contagious curse: if she draws blood from you, it will slowly turn you into a werewolf like her, less powerful, but just as terrifying and contagious, changing at night without your control, subject to her dominance.
